I realized the best way to go with this job is to start from scratch and redraw the whole thing.
Most old-style crests and heraldic symbols are fantastic pieces to look at but they become pain it the head when comes down to digitalization.
Usually made with etching techniques, engravings and linotypes these art pieces contain hair-line strokes and areas filled with hand drawn patters, which can become a horror story for live-by-line vector drawing.
For modern world use and press needs you will have to most likely simplify original, add more white areas and clean up messy parts.
Obviously it does steal a bit of the original flavor, but as i see it, it’s definitely better to print and use these crests instead of just dumping them to the garbage.
I wish i’d had one in my own family :)
Here is my final result below.

I just finished this project and got approval for my new American client to make an announcement in the blog.
Here is a new logo designed for Planet Leo — USA based music production, music video, social media and merchandising company.

New logo is flexible enough for merchandising purposes and it will definitely look nice on any type of marketing materials or even dj turntable pads.
Lot’s of room to play!

It was produced by Elmwood brand consultancy http://www.elmwood.com/ .
Besides the actual ampersand logo mark itself designed from cable lines and forming the globe, identity comes with a set of illustrations which are very nicely made.
Clam is my personal favorite.
Here are few samples:

Owners of the place wanted to have a place which would definitely stand out from the rest of the grey cafes in the neighborhood.
We have delivered entire package of visual communications for them, from the logo till the carpet on the floor. We have also designed and produced exterior of the cafe.
The client has request a lotus flower to be a focal point of identity as well as an accent on the purple color.
As a result of our work bar owners got several requests to become a franchise for several other places in various towns in Hungary.
That’s a good feedback indeed!

The “Art of the Menu”, design blog I have mentioned earlier, chose our menu to be listed among other examples of fine design work.
Here it is: http://www.underconsideration.com/artofthemenu/archives/trattoria_pomo_doro.php
It feels just right, I guess we will send them more options to choose from :)

Tasty stuff! You can see them in the lower part of the picture.
This inspiring logo of the cafe shop I have discovered yesterday on one of the busiest streets in Budapest. The sign was printed on a board approximately 2 meters high.
I am not even sure what disturbing me here more: the hands, the head or an amazing creative potential of the fellow designer ;o)

Well, what else could be placed into this text block next to scissors?
– Free voice amplification horn
– Perspective client search
– Mosquito smasher
– Vuvuzela
– XXL blunt paper
Your suggestion?

These losers not only copied layout and elements but could not even design own icons or buttons!
Few screen-shots are below.
I can imagine that this is not a problem only of a fellow web designer who had no self respect to copy someone else’s work but rather a website owner who accepted the final product.
If project supervisor was not informed now it’s the good time to take steps.
I would like to hear explanations from Mr. Koundourakis, the site owner in the nearest future, but meanwhile I am sending them a ray of diarrhea and inevitable “-1″ to karma.
World biggest creative network Underconsideration LLC came up wit this promising idea to develop a blog, were restaurant menus would be listed from around the world and presented under various categories. Name of the blog is ART of the MENU.
So far selection of menus presented is very limited by hopefully in a year or two this blog will turn into a valuable resource for designers involved into the restaurant businesses. Menus are also well presented and described.
We will definitely submit some of our menu designs in there : )

Wooh! After several month of development and digging through every single folder on our hard-drives we are finally happy to announce that new Artamax Portfolio is now online.
We have build our own software to manage this and collected most of the projects completed during last 12 years and dating back to 1998.
Still there are around 100 more projects missing, some things we are not allowed to publish… And later on Hungarian version will be launched as well.
This IS THE biggest list of design references available online in Hungary - guarantied.
There are no other maniacs here more paranoid then us.
Please browse and distribute your “Like”s under projects if you find something attractive enough. :o)
We gonna go out to pop some champagne.
In 1883 painter Viktor Vasnetsov (1848-1926) famous for his folklore romantic style designed and decorated the food menu for the coronation of Russian Tsar Alexander III.
Even if you can’t read in Russian and you’re not able to find out what exactly the list of dishes was, these layouts themselves are truly stunning artwork.
Enjoy!
